Microtech Hera 2 250 edition
Microtech is a top brand but like too many knife manufacturers their popularity has caused them to be less than they used to be. The blade has a coating but I don’t know if it’s DLC or paint. The blade is supposed to be m390mk but not on the blade. Sure they say because of the coating but the logo is there. The flag painting is supposed to be cerakote but no acknowledgment of that. The paint job is nice but the masking is evident, the edges not crisp enough and the whole job has an overspray like texture making it feel cheap. It needed a clear top coat matte or gloss. The blade is sharp but they claim very sharp and for a 600 dollar knife it could have been better. For the cost of this knife and the workmanship that is there it should have been zero blade play like my luminary 250. The seem between the two shell halves is uneven and again for the cost should have been better. Customer service is not to my standard. Any contact to Microtech is use the website start a ticket. They are so concerned to protect a brand from counterfeits that they want all knives sent to them so if they do get a counterfeit they can remove their logo. I had a 25-30year old ultra tech makora that lost a screw and couldn’t buy a screw. This has no exterior screws it’s put together with a slide system and held together with their pass through torx screw very cool very nice. The glass breaker is cool. The clip is cool works well with the stiff clip and the ball. Marfione’s signature is cool but I don’t see and birthdate or serial number like most other. Overall great knife but for items listed it gets 4 stars. I still love Microtech but in my opinion like everything else their getting too expensive for the quality. I have 20+ Microtech in my collection but I’ve seen counterfeit’s that come real close to their quality for 50-60 bucks. If you watch their YouTube videos on counterfeit’s some of them hold up ok, not as good as a Microtech but well. The torture test are ridiculous. An OTF purpose is to stab slice and cut. It’s a weapon. It’s used to protect yourself. If your an assassin or military it’s offensive. If you have to protect yourself no better knife to have than a real Microtech. If you need to stab or baton wood, buy an axe. If you need to put a blade between someone’s ribs in a fight buy a Microtech. This knife would get 5 stars at 400 dollars. For 600 dollars it lacks.
